Karibuni Nairobi Tours

Date 17/11/2016

In September and October, the parent representatives together with GSN invited newcomers and long-term residents alike on tours to get to know Nairobi.

We had two very popular tours. The first one took us through the contrasts of the fast growing suburb of Ruaka, the huts of Githogoro, and past the posh Windsor Golf Club Hotel to PaaYaPaa, the oldest art gallery in East Africa. The tour then went further on through Muthaiga and parts of Westland and back to GSN via places like Spinners Web.

Our guide for this first tour was Ernst Tenambergen who has lived in Kenya for many years and is well acquainted with the political landscape and its many related issues, which he expanded on during the ride.

The second tour took us through Lavington past Junction Mall and onto the busy Ngong Road with its plethora of vendors of furniture, plants, woven items, pots and playground items and more. From here, we went onto our destination: green sprawling Karen.

We had a fabulous stop-over at Purdy Arms with its Saturday organic market and lush gardens and subsequently meandered through Karen past many points of interest, ending up at MatBronze where we had a delicious lunch accompanied by bronze sculptures and art.

Going back via the by-pass through home-steads and townships, we noticed all the buildings shooting up amongst the fields and talked about the future development of Nairobi.

We look forward to welcoming new and established parents on our tours again.
