Who comes to school at 5:30 on a Sunday morning? Only the really tough ones, those who are also ready to run 42.195 km or 21 or, yes, even 10 or 5 kilometers. Already on Saturday evening, the runners of the German School Community met for the obligatory pasta party in the cafeteria.
At dawn, the school bus headed for the starting line, and then, together with more than 25,000 other runners, we set off on the course. Unfortunately, no one from our group finished first. Elias Chelimo (2:10:22) won the men’s marathon and Sheila Chepkech (2:27:04) the women’s marathon. Daniel Ebenyo, a 2020 Tokyo Olympics participant, won the half marathon in 1:00:50, Evaline Chirchir was the first woman to cross the finish line after1:09:58.
Our runners finished a bit later, but certainly not less happy. It was a fantastic atmosphere and a great feeling to be on the track together with the top athletes in the capital of the best running nation in the world. Congratulations to all the “finishers”.
