Dear School Community,
As most of you are aware, our Cashier Virginia Gacunku passed away on Saturday 13th February, 2021.
Virginia joined the German School Nairobi in 2007 and worked with us for 14 years up until her untimely death. She was a valuable member of staff who will be dearly missed by all of us.
The value of a person should be seen in what he/she gives and not in what they receive back. Our colleague Virginia was a giver per excellency.
Virginia was a brilliant visionary, innovative and creative. She generously gave us her knowledge, expertise and skills. This was extended to the school Cooperative society where she served as treasurer and book keeper for more than 10 years up until her untimely death.
Virginia was deeply concerned with improving the welfare of her colleagues and was very keen to see them grow financially and socially. She was a founder member and Treasurer of the School welfare scheme that runs the school’s benevolent fund.
Virginia was living proof of how fine a person can be. She was a great colleague to all of us, a loving wife to her husband and a devoted mother to her children. The character of her life can be summed up as honest, hardworking, loyal and understanding.
As our school cashier she gave energy, commitment and inspiration to all staff and to others with whom she interacted. Virginia was not only cheerful in herself but also gave much cheerfulness to others. She had a beautiful smile, a sense of humor and a gentle demeanor. Virginia was bright, logical and systematic in her work and thinking. She was always willing to share her ideas with others. She was passionately interested in financial literacy and would advise her colleagues on budgeting, savings and investments.
On Wednesday 24th February, the School Community held a small memorial in honor of Virginia’s life. The quaint service conducted by Mr. Hawerkamp, was attended by members of staff who came to bid her a farewell.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all members of the School Community who were generous enough to contribute towards the hospital bill for Virginia. The family are indeed, very grateful.
