On 21 January 2026, the student representatives of the German School Nairobi attended a formal reception at the Residence of the German Embassy in Nairobi. The occasion marked the visit of Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, during his first official trip to Sub Saharan Africa.
The German School Nairobi (DSN) was represented by student leaders Noah (Grade 12) and Lexi (Grade 11), together with Principal Jörg Isenbeck. In a warm and respectful atmosphere, the evening provided valuable opportunities for exchange and new connections.
During a personal conversation with the Foreign Minister, Lexi and Noah shared insights into their educational journey at the German School Nairobi. They spoke about the DSN scholarship programme and reflected on their successful participation in the international debating tournament in Istanbul. Johann Wadephul showed great interest in their experiences and in the strong engagement of our school community.
We are proud of Lexi and Noah for representing our school with openness, professionalism, and enthusiasm.

Today, democracy was on the timetable at the German School Nairobi in a very practical way: our students in grades 5–12 elected their new student council (SV).

17 enthusiastic candidates presented their ideas—ranging from cafeteria issues and lost and found to digital questions and the desire for more say in school decisions.

Principal Jörg Isenbeck opened the election by pointing out that at DSN, we not only teach democracy, but also live it.

The student council consists of five elected students and plays an important role in school life: it raises concerns, represents the interests of fellow students, and actively helps shape the school.

The results will be announced on Monday – but one thing is already clear: Your Voice Matters!

The German School Nairobi is once again offering children the chance to join our Scholarship Program. Since 2008, the program has enabled talented and motivated young students from Kenya to pursue an outstanding education leading to the German Abitur.

For the 2026 intake, we are inviting applications from children aged 9–10 who are eager to learn, grow, and become part of our diverse school community.

We look forward to receiving many strong applications and welcoming the next generation of scholarship students to DSN.

There was a lot going on on St. Martin's Day. As always, the fourth grade put on a great performance. The kindergarten was very interesting. The children in the audience grabbed their parents' cell phones and filmed the fourth grade. Most of them sang along to the song “Lichterkinder” (Children of Light). The children were even allowed to sit on their parents' shoulders. They all had such beautiful lanterns with them.

The fourth grade started with a welcome dance, followed by a play, and ended with a rendition of the song “Lichterkinder” (Children of Light). After the performance, we walked around the sports field with our lanterns.

Afterwards, there were St. Martin's cookies for everyone. Finally, we were able to just play until we had to go home. It was a great party.
