Documentation of the project days

Dear School Community, below this article is a summary video capturing the activities all-round during the Project Week. Additionally, here is a summary of a variety of the activities in detail….enjoy!

Website design, friendship and school song

Website Design

Let’s start with the website design project. The participants’ expectations for this project were high. The goal was to create an appealing and informative website that would help new students find their way around the school. The first day began with an introduction through YouTube videos showing basic website design skills. This was followed by topic planning on whiteboards. An important topic was copyright to ensure that all content can be used legally. At the end of the day, the participants learnt how to use the Wixx platform to create a website, also supported by YouTube videos. The second day was spent working intensively on the website. The participants started by creating the website and compiling texts for the website, including a welcome text. These texts were then inserted into the website. On the third day, the final arrangements were made. The website was finalised and the last texts were added. Mr Tonak checked and corrected the grammar of the texts, although he had already done this yesterday. The participants had a great time and created a helpful website for new students.

Friendship Project

The project tended to involve younger pupils, such as Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3. The aim of this project was to teach the concept of friendship and to create a friendship bench that would serve as a practical place for students to make friends, but most importantly to give students who may not have many friends the opportunity to make new ones. On the first day, the concept of the friendship bench was explained: a bench where you can sit down to make friends. The participants discussed what friendship means and created a collage with terms related to this topic. A friendship ribbon was presented with an example from a YouTube video. The participants then designed on paper what the friendship bench should look like and started to colour it in. On the second day, the participants created videos with QR codes to be attached to the bench to explain the concept. The script for these videos was prepared. Work then continued on the bench. On the third day, the participants were asked whether what was shown was friendship or not friendship. The friendship bench was completed and fully painted. Each day began with a delicious breakfast. The friendship bench is now an integral part of the German school and teaches the pupils the principle of friendship.

School Song (Pamoja)

The expectations for this project were high, as many pupils are musically talented and an impressive school song was to be created. The participants were divided into groups: Musicians, lyricists and singers. The instruments were selected and a brainstorming session was held on the song verses, with everyone voting together. The refrain of the song was: “Tuko sote pamoja! Pamoja!” Recording equipment was organised and people from other classes were invited to sing along. They practised a lot to achieve a perfect result. Finally, the song was recorded. Despite good practice, the song was not as good as expected. On the third day, the plan to record the song again fell through because Mr Klecker and Benjamin were absent. Despite the unexpected obstacle on the last day, an impressive school song was created.
