NATIONAL YOUTH & CADETS CHESS TOURNAMENT

DSN led by Noah Ah Poe, Jonas Ah Poe, Dante Milando, Amin Ameen and Amiri Rutenberg participated in the  Kenya National Youth & Cadets Chess Championship 2024 took place from April 6th to April 8th at Mangu High School in Kiambu County. This prestigious event drew in a massive participation of 5230 players, including 3341 boys and 1889 girls, from across the country. The competition was intense, spanning eight grueling rounds, with winners in each category earning the opportunity to advance to the final playoffs. These playoffs determined the national champion, who would have the honor of representing Kenya in international competitions. Only Kenyan citizens were eligible to participate in the playoffs, with a time control of 90 minutes flat per round, resulting in each round lasting for 3 hours.

Throughout the tournament, the team exhibited exceptional skill, sportsmanship and dedication. Participation in such a prestigious event provided invaluable learning experiences as they interacted with participants from various regions.

In the overall schools final ranking, the German School secured the 66th position out of 354 schools. Notably, Noah Ah Poe, Jonas Ah Poe and Dante Milando each garnered more than 5 points, thereby qualifying for the African Youth Chess Championship scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa from June 15th – 23rd –June- 2024.
