On the 11th of May 2024, the girls’ basketball team from the German School Nairobi, travelled to Hillcrest for a basketball tournament. Participants were; Munira Abdullahi, Maya Graser Wairimu, Victoria Kilb, Venessa Kilb, Wendo Marandu, Naledi Omondi and Meena Cherop
The team was brimming with excitement and determination to give their all. From the outset, they showcased remarkable energy and teamwork, executing precise passes and racking up points. Dominating every game and winning all their games in the pool stages, they emerged as group leaders, securing a spot in the quarter-finals where they faced a tense match against Sabis school. Despite a deadlock at the final whistle as it was tie, they utilized the two extra minutes time added and eventually clinched victory, advancing to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, the competition became much tougher and the team faced a very strong team. During this crucial game, we encountered a “Stolperfalle” (a stumbling block or problem) that caused the team to lose some focus and rhythm. Despite the best efforts and determination, DSN unfortunately lost the match.
Participating in the tournament was not just about winning games. It was about the experience and above all the fun we had. We cheered each other on, celebrated our successes and learned from our setbacks.
Upon arrival to the German School premises, the team held their heads high, proud of the accomplishments and excited about the improvements. Their sights are now set on the prestigious KAISSO finals at Hillcrest School on June 15, 2024.
